About Us

Young Men-N-Motion, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth development mentorship organization founded by Ms. Minnie Davis in 1999 and launched in 2006. Due to its success, the program was officially established in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization—Young Men-N-Motion, Inc.—a year-round STREAMS Youth Development and Mentoring Organization. It operates out of the Mathis Community Center in Detroit, Michigan, and focuses on serving young men between the ages of 11 and 26.

Young Men-N-Motion, Inc. is committed to delivering high standards of excellence in education, community outreach, and cultural exposure to enhance career pathways. Through mentoring, access to resources, conflict resolution, academic support, STREAMS programming, mental health and wellness, social justice, prevention and advocacy, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and recreational activities, the organization empowers young men to succeed personally and professionally.

YMNM Going Fishing

I have a young man who, after visiting Belize, was inspired to begin learning Japanese and is now preparing to study abroad. He is one of five graduates from our 2019 class and is currently attending Henry Ford Community College. From Tuesday, June 25 to Friday, June 28, 2019, we embarked on a Cultural Excursion and Mini College Tour to the prestigious Historically Black College, Howard University, in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, the funding we anticipated was no longer available, and we were unable to bring all of the young men who truly deserved to participate.

Young Men-N-Motion, Inc. is entirely self-funded, and we do not receive financial support from federal or local government sources. While I no longer have the same level of personal income to invest in our programs and community youth, I remain committed to creating impactful experiences and opportunities. This work continues through my passion, unwavering dedication, and the generous donations of our supporters.

Ms. Minnie and YMNM High School Graduates

Each year, my organization, Young Men-N-Motion, Inc., provides meaningful opportunities and life-changing experiences for underprivileged youth. One of our most impactful moments occurred in 2018, when I had the honor of traveling with 11 of our young men from Detroit to Belize, Central America. During this journey, they helped build a small home for a homeless family of seven, explored African and Mayan history, received personal DNA results and participated in a Rites of Passage ceremony. They also visited a juvenile detention center, where they met 47 young men between the ages of 11 and 17 serving life sentences. We introduced an entrepreneurial project to the youth in detention, empowering them with economic knowledge and tools to raise funds to support their own programming.

In addition, Young Men-N-Motion organizes annual visits to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), as well as experiences like camping, salmon fishing, mental health and wellness retreats, and various educational field trips.
